Ride GTA/Ride HEAT

Greensboro Transit Authority serves the community with an efficient mode of transportation seven days a week. There's always a bus going your way with 24 routes and connectors serving people on the move. Courteous drivers are happy to guide you to your workplace, school, shopping, entertainment and more. For your convenience, buses operate from 5:15am to 11:30pm on most routes. To find a full listing of route schedules, visit the GTA route page.

HEAT (Higher Education Area Transit) is the newest service addition offering seven additional routes. College students as well as the general public can ride express routes between campuses and other selected stops 39 weeks out of the year. These routes will run as late as 10:30 p.m. Monday thru Wednesday and 2:30 a.m. Thursday thru Sunday.

Fares for GTA and HEAT are a modest $1.20 each way with free transfers. It costs almost three times that amount for a single gallon of gas in your car! To save additional money on your GTA fare, purchase multi-ride passes, or a monthly unlimited ride pass for less than it would cost to fill your tank! In addition, discounts are available for students and the elderly. Students of participating institutions of higher learning can ride fare-free using campus I.D. cards or pass cards.

Each clean bus features wide aisles and seats with handicapped access. Most vehicles contain a unique kneeling feature for easy boarding and all are operated by a knowledgeable and experienced driver. If you wish to travel with a bicycle, all GTA buses offer racks to store up to two bicycles on your trips.

GTA offers a direct connection with Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation express bus service to Winston-Salem, High Point and other destinations inside and outside the Triad. Imagine…no more driving on I-40 and 85! The GTA downtown transfer location at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot also provides direct access to interstate travel by connecting to Greyhound, Carolina Trailways and Amtrak.

In 2007, GTA carried passengers on over 3.6 million trips. 2008 projections predict almost 4 million trips. Ridership has been growing by leaps and bounds because GTA meets the needs of those with and without alternative transportation.
